Ultimate Frisbee

Rules

1.      The default gender ratio is 3/2, meaning at least 2 players of each gender on the field-- five players per team.

2.      Substitutions -- Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout.

3.      Non-contact -- No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made.

4.      Fouls -- When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.

5.      Self-Refereeing -- Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.

6.      Spirit of the Game -- Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

7.      Teams must provide their own disc for warm-ups and games.

8.      A coin toss will determine which team will get the first possession of the disc.

9.      The game will last until one team’s number of goals scored first reaches or exceeds 10; or until a time limit of 45 minutes is reached. When a team first reaches or exceeds half of the game total, half time will be initiated.

10.  Time-outs--A standard game has one time-out per half. Each team is permitted exactly one time-out in overtime. This means that any team time-outs remaining from regulation play are discarded, and each team is rewarded a single team timeout.  Time-outs will last 60 seconds.

11.   Moving the disc--The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Running with the disc is not allowed, and players must stop moving as quickly as possible after catching the disc and establish a pivot foot. The person in possession of the disc will have 10 seconds to throw the disc. The disc may not be handed off. To count as a legal pass it must have air time.
