Softball Rules

I.M  SOFTBALL  RULES

1)          Rock-Paper-Scissors will determine the home team.

2)          A runner may not steal or leave the base until the ball is hit.

3)          The pitcher must throw the ball with at least a three foot arc but not more than a 12 foot arc.

4)          If a player hits a foul ball, after hitting two strikes the player is out.

5)          Games will be six innings long. If the game is not over five minutes prior to the next game, the intramural   coordinator will ask the teams to finish up the inning that they are currently playing.

6)          Games will start promptly at 4:15, 5:15, and 6:15 on the seminary softball field by Lake Sag.

7)          When there is an overthrow that goes out of play, then the runners advance one base. If ball stays in play, then runners can advance at his/her own risk.

8)          Teams must supply their own bats, balls, and gloves.

9)          Please leave the bases on the field when you are finished.

10)        Rubber cleats are permitted but not metal ones.

11)        Games will be played unless weather prohibits. If weather is questionable check your email frequently. I will send out a cancellation email prior to game time.

12)        Game is played with 10 people. Co-Rec games have 5 SJU & 5 CSB students. If there are only 9 people there must be more girls than guys. Not having enough girls will result in a forfeit but you may still play.

13)        For Co-Rec games batting order must rotate: man, woman, man, woman, etc. Field positions must also rotate to that men and women play alternating positions. Ie: man at first, woman at second, man at shortstop, woman at third, man in left field, woman in left center, man in right center, woman in right.

14)        There is a ten run limit per inning.

15)        A ball hit into the trees in left or centerfield is an automatic home run as well as a ball hit into the long grassy field past the right field grass.

16)        If a runner is hit by the ball in the baseline, he or she is not out. However, if the runner kicks a ball or it is obviously intentional that he or she tries to disrupt the play, then the runner is out.

Report game results to I.M. supervisor (djganzer@csbsju.edu) the same day as the game was played via email.
