Rules

Beginning the Game

-          At the beginning of each game, each team stands on the back line of their respective half- court, and the balls are placed on the half-court line. They will remain there until a team captain (winner of paper, rock, scissors starts the game) says go and then each team's players sprint to the half-court line to retrieve the balls. If a player steps over the boundary line (assuming the game is half-court, not red line) no penalty shall be incurred unless the player is ridiculously over the line. Players may kick, toss, throw, pick-up etc. the balls on the half-court line. However, the balls are not active until they have been run back to the Free throw line. Once this has happened, the ball is active.
-  There are three ways for your opponent to go out of the game. The first, and most frequent method, is a direct hit. If a player is stuck on any part of their body except for the head; or on any part of their clothing, the person is out. If a person ducks and the ball hits them on the head, they are still out. The second way to get out is by stepping over the boundary lines. In "Half-Court Boundary" games, if a player steps over the half-court line, he/she is out. Lastly, if someone throws a ball at the opposing team, and the ball is caught, the person that threw the ball is out.       -  The players that are out on your team are lined up on the north line from the half-court line to the back court line. If you catch a ball from the opposite team, one member of your team (the first one in line closest to the half-court line) comes back in. The player is not an active player until he/she touches the back line, has a ball in his/her hand, or 5 seconds has passed. When any of these occur, the player is live and is able to get out again.
-  Once one team eliminates everyone from the other team, the team has won the game. However, if both teams have only one player on their team, all the boundary lines are eliminated, and the game becomes a "free-for-all." If a ball is caught during a free-for-all, there continue to be no boundaries, and one player from the team of the player that caught the ball is now an active member in the free-for-all (in cooperation with his teammate). Once the game has been completed, the balls are placed on the center court line again, and the teams reverse courts.

For the FR’s Cup, we will play best 2 of 3 games; or 30 minutes.

BEHAVIOR-

Although dodgeball is a chaotic, sometimes violent game, we need to remember to treat each other with respect. If there is too much complaining, or a player doesn’t step out when they should be out; the IM supervisors are instructed to remove that player from play for the evening. If there is too much complaining or unacceptable behavior after the player is removed, the IM supervisors are instructed to remove 5 additional players, with the next outburst resulting in a forfeit.

Let’s have fun, talk a little trash, compete but play by the rules and respect each other.

Remember, we are not here to build character, we are here to reveal it!
