Dave Laliberte '00 was recently featured in an article in the St. Cloud Times. Laliberte, an adjunct history professor at St. Cloud State University, wrote an award-winning research paper on baseball at Native American boarding schools. He tells a story of preservation among the children who were forced to renounce their language and culture in favor of the Euro-American way of life. It's a story of how the young Ojibwe re-created themselves to not only survive, but excel. The Ojibwe children who attended the St. John's Industrial School in the late 1880s and early 1890s formed their own baseball teams that played against local teams.
