Jacob Saffert: Sustainability Fellow
Jacob is a 2014 graduate of St. John's University where he majored in political science with a minor in environmental studies. He worked as a student project manager in the Office of Sustainability during his senior year at SJU. Jacob recently returned from working at a non-governmental organization in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He spent the summer working as a fundraiser and coordinator for Novi Val, an NGO dedicated to preserving biodiversity and promoting inter-ethnic cooperation in the region. In the past, he has also interned with the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, an environmental nonprofit in St. Paul. He worked for the transport and land use department at MCEA researching how public health in the Twin Cities is impacted by transportation. Jacob's research focused specifically on how increasing bicycle commuter rates in Minneapolis would lead to lower rates of obesity, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other ailments because of increased physical activity in people's everyday lives.
