Job Title:  MDI Public Relations Coordinator

Department:  Men's Development Institute

Length of Position: Academic Year (8-10 hours of work/study compensation)

Function/Description of the Position:
The primary role of the Public Relations Coordinator is to lead and manage daily promotions of the|Men's Development Institute in support of the mission of St. John's University. The Publics Relations Coordinator will manage and develop a marketing plan executed through various projects including: creating web design, brochures, posters, emails, t-shirts, and articles to published by the weekly Record. The Public Relations Coordinator will ensure that tasks are completed at a professional level and report weekly to the Men's Development Student Director. He will seek new and appropriate growth ventures for the Institute that will not only attract students but will also enhance the overall ethos and status of the Institute.  Additionally, the Public Relations Coordinator will be expected to perform basic office duties.

Necessary to this position is the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of constituents. The ideal candidate is a self-initiator needing minimal supervision and open to being mentored. Due to the structure of MDI, the Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for reporting to the staff advisor regarding promotion of the Institute. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills are required along with knowledge and background in gender studies. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly staff meeting and work collaboratively with the staff members to understand and promote their perspective events.
  • Update the events calendar on the Men's Development Institute website.
  • Maintain and expand both the knowledge and the presence of the MDI within the campus community by actively generating and sharing ideas with campus partners.
  • Maintain records, archives, and assessments regarding programming of MDI each semester.
  • Actively participate on committees and be involved with the administration of the institutions on topics pertaining to the MDI.
  • Research new ventures.
  • Work on special projects determined by the Student Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent organization, time management, and critical thinking skills.
  • Background in gender studies and an interest in learning more about gender.
  • Experience in leadership of people and projects
  • Ability to take initiative and work with indirect supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities.
  • Attentive to detail and able to verify accuracy of information
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Publisher, Igneniux, and InDesign applications.
  • Strong willingness to learn.
