Special Olympics

Special Olympics Minnesota is a competitive athletic program for individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Through Special Olympics programs, people with intellectual disabilities transform themselves, their communities, and the world. Volunteers act as coaches to individuals and teams, providing a positive environment for each athlete. No coaching or athletic experience is necessary. All that is needed is an upbeat personality, a dedication to the program, and a desire to have fun!  Bowling is offered during the Fall semester;  basketball, weight lifting, and swimming are offered during the Spring semester.

Expectations

We only expect that you be respectful of the athletes and provide positive encouragement. As a coach, it is your job to provide a positive environment for the athletes and to have fun!

Qualifications

  • Ability to commit your time (about 2 hrs/wk) throughout the entire season
  • Basic knowledge and ability in any of the sports offered
  • Patience, concern and interest in helping children and adults with special disabilities
