Celebrating 10 Years of Service-Learning at CSB/SJU

In the Spring of 2007, the Liemandt Family Service-Learning Program celebrated 10 years of working with students and professors from the College of St. Benedict / St. John's University and the St. Cloud area community.

Eleven of our Community Partners and faculty members were nominated for recognition. The nominees were: Erin Truhler, Erin Szabo, Jeff Carmack, Mary Kay Hawkins, Robbie O'Brien, Hugh Knox, Chris Kustelski, Lori Klapperich, Steve Stelzner, Jo Ellen Johnson, and Sheila Nelson. Community partners, faculty, and nominated students were invited to join us in our celebration. The celebration included remarks by Provost Rita Knuesel, SJU President Brother Dietrich Reinhart, and CSB President MaryAnn Baenninger; a keynote speech by Larry Hosch; and performances by Beats on the Block and the Tech Pop Group. Workshops and table discussions allowed for further reflection on Service-Learning and what it entails.

We are extremely thankful to all who have made these 10 years possible--all community partners, faculty, and students who have contributed in any way. Throughout the 10 years of Service-Learning at CSB/SJU, we have had 4,516 students serve 103,753 hours at 123 different sites. Many have taken the step to engage in service, to reflect on their experiences, and to allow it to change their lives.

Through this, the voices of thousands of individuals in our broader community have been heard, and these individuals have been deeply touched. We are very grateful to all who have helped us impact the lives of so many people. We are looking forward to continuing to make a difference in the lives of thousands more in the years to come.
