Student Employment Leadership Team

Vision Statement

The VISION of the CSB/SJU Student Employment Leadership Team is to promote an environment where students are:

  • ACCEPTED as contributing members of collaborative work team
  • RESPECTED for their work in reaching departmental or agency goals
  • APPRECIATED for their role in the community
  • ACKNOWLEDGED for their leadership ability
  • LEARNING and UTILIZING transferable life skills
  • ENCOURAGED in their vocational journey
  • GIVEN the OPPORTUNITY to make decisions and to be a part of the decision making process in the department/agency
  • ENCOURAGED to set goals within their work environment

SELT Goals 2007-08

  1. To enhance the learning environment in student employment by creating opportunities for students and supervisors to gain leadership knowledge and skills that can be transferred to current and future employment positions. 

    This will be accomplished by offering 20-25 professional development sessions focused on leadership and professional development in student employment.  Examples of sessions include:
      • Basics for Supervisors
      • Leadership Challenge
      • Conflict Management
      • Responsibilities and Expectations for Student Employees
      • Creating Successful Relationships with your Peers
  2. To focus SELT sessions on the Kouzes and Posner leadership principle of “Challenge the Process”.
  3. To sponsor the professional development “Emerald” Leadership Certificate through the CSB/SJU Inspiring Leaders Certificate Program.

    This will be accomplished by offering the following required courses:
    • Basics for Supervisors (required for students and staff)
    • Leadership Challenge (required for students and staff)
    • Conflict Management (required for students and staff)
    • Creating Successful Relationships with your Peers (required for students)
    • Responsibilities and Expectations for Student Employees (required for staff)

      And by offering 8-12 optional sessions focused on professional development.  Examples of these sessions could include:

  • Effective employee feedback
  • Planning and implementing an orientation for students
  • A session based on career development
  • Managing change
