Providing References and Recommendation Letters for Student Employees:
Minefield or Opportunity?
On Tuesday, December 7th, John Clarkson, Associate Director of SJU Career Services presented information on writing letters of recommendation and providing references for student employees. His presentation came from material published from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). During the presentation, he discussed what information you should and should not give in a recommendation, the legal and ethical ramifications that guide recommendations, referrals and references, and gave tips on what information is best to collect from students prior to agreeing to serve as a reference.
