Article I: Name and Purpose

Section I: Name
College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University History Club, from now on referred to as History Club

Section II: Purpose/Mission
The History Club promotes the Benedictine value of community centered on the study of history for students of CSB/SJU through exchanging dialogue and teaching the leaders of tomorrow through the lessons of yesterday.

Article II: Membership

Section I: Eligibility for Membership
All students of CSB/SJU are invited to be in History Club.  Students attending at least one event will have the opportunity to vote in club decisions. Faculty and staff are invited to participate in meeting in events but will not be voting members. 

Section II: Voting Member Criteria
Members having attended at least one meeting can vote for club officers.

Section III: Removal of Members
Members can be removed if they threaten the safety or perform actions that have malicious intent toward another member.  Member(s) involved in this infraction, with a petition submitted to a board member, can be removed with 2/3 of the votes in the club in favor of removing a member for the club.  With 2/3rds votes, that member will be removed immediately.  The voting will take place in the next meeting after allegations have been brought forward.  However, the club allows guilty members to petition to the whole club, a case in the defense of their actions before the vote of removal by the other club members.  If the board of executives feels that the member(s) involved with the infraction do not have grounds to be removed, the petition will be removed.

Article III: Officers

Section I: Officer Qualifications
Any member can be an officer in the History Club.

Section II: Elected Officers
Officers are President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  All officers will work together to accomplish the goals of the History Club

Section III: Officer Positions

Duties of the officers include:

Section IV: Vacancy in Office
In the event of a vacancy for whatever reason, the History Club will hold a special election to fill the position. Until the special election, another officer will be appointed to cover the position.

Section V: Removal of Officers
Officer members will be treated just like voting members of the History Club. Officers can be removed if they target the emotions or safety of other club members. Officer(s) involved in violating this rule can be removed with 2/3 of the votes of club members in the club. However, officers convicted of violating the rules are allowed the chance to petition in front of the entire club in defense of their actions or to apologize. If the board of executives feels that the officer(s) involved with the infraction does not have grounds to be removed, the petition will be removed.

Section VI: Appeal of Removal of Officers
In the event that an officer is convicted of violating another member's feelings or opinions, they will be subjected to the vote of the entire club and its members. With 2/3rds of the votes in favor of removing an officer from office, that officer will be removed immediately. Voting takes place in the next meeting after allegations have been brought forward.

Article IV: Elections

Section I: Nomination Process
Members can nominate themselves, another member of the club, or an officer of the club. Once the candidates are nominated, a popular vote will take place within an amount of time deemed fitting (at least before the end of the spring semester).

Section II: Elected Officers
The Co-Funding Board mandates that by April 1, officer elections take place. The Department of Student Activities will be notified of the new officers.  This vote will be determined by popular vote of secret ballot from all present student membership.

Section III: Special Elections
In the event of a special election, a meeting will be called within a month of the position opening.  An officer will be elected with a popular vote the only requirements is that the new officer must meet all officer qualifications.

Article V: Advisor

Section I: Selection
An advisor will be chosen on a yearly basis by the executive branch of the history club. An advisor will be a professor from the history department interested in serving as advisor to the club. Candidates for the advisor position will interview with the officers of the club. Following the meetings with candidates, the officers will vote for their preferred candidate.

Section II: Upon the Founding of the History Club
At this current time, Professor Gregory Schroeder, chair of the History Department, will be the advisor.

Article VI: Meetings
The officers will call meetings whenever necessary.

Article VIII: Finances
The History Club will apply for Co-Funding Board monies on an annual basis. If the club is allocated resources, the History Club will follow all Co-Funding Board and institutional regulations.

Article IX: Amendments

Section I: Ratification

If the History Club sees the need to change the constitution, they can change the constitution with a 2/3 vote on the amendment.

Section II: Submittal to Department of Student Activities and Joint Club Board

The History Club will submit the ratifications to the Department of Student Activities and JCB.

Article X

The History Club admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.

Article XI

The History Club considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity, which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. The History Club recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.
