Fundraising and Solicitation

Before undertaking any type of fundraising activity, please review the policies in

In addition, if you want to sell or distribute items of any kind on our campuses, you need to complete a Solicitation Permit with the Department of Student Activities and Leadership Development. A permit is required even if you are distributing items free of charge.  You should also obtain a permit if you are sponsoring a gathering in a public area, such as a bus stop, to promote a cause.

A permit can be completed by Maribeth Overland (x5273), Gwen Schimek (x5755), Trish Doran (x5038) or a student manager (x5254). You may complete a permit by phone or by going to Student Activities on 2nd Floor Mary Commons, CSB.

Once you have obtained a permit, the Student Activities staff will assist you in making arrangements for tables and space if necessary.

Please note:

Please note that even if you have permission from Student Accounts to charge items on student ID's, you cannot collect ID numbers via the internet. Email charging to ID’s is not allowed!

Clothing Design

Please note that logos, designs and language for clothing and other items must have approval from Student Activities and Leadership Development prior to being sold or given away on campus.  Please contact Maribeth Overland at x5273 (moverland@csbsju.edu)  or Gwen Schimek at x5755 (gschimek@csbsju.edu) to obtain approval.

Off Campus Fundraising and Sponsorships

On-campus fundraising requires permission from Student Activities.  Off-campus fundraising requires permission from Institutional Advancement.  Call X5027 at CSB or email Jill Dalager-Brunner at jbrunner@csbsju.edu.  At SJU call x3941 or email Jon Ruis at jruis@csbsju.edu.  In addition, club sponsorships must be handled through Institutional Advancement.  Do not make arrangements with outside businesses unless you have permission from Jill or Jon.

Raffles

According to the business offices on both the CSB and SJU Campus, monitoring raffles and the funds they generate is very complicated and opens the institutions up to significant risk.  In order to avoid the high risk of a sales tax violation, clubs and organizations are prohibited from holding raffles.

The institutions have a long standing acceptance of other types of fundraising activities, so please consider these activities as a means to generate income for your club or organization.  Please remember to contact a member of the CSB/SJU Student Activities Staff to obtain a solicitation permit before undertaking any fundraising.
