Open Gym with Johnball

Join CSB/SJU students for an exciting and family friendly game of Johnball. This game is suitable for all ages, and skill levels. Come to enjoy the benefits of teamwork, sportsmanship, fun and creativity.
Note: The Haehn Campus Center, CSB Field House gym will be open 6:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m. all weekend for families.

Rock Climbing Wall

Looking for a challenge this weekend that is also fun and good for your health? Come on over to the Saint John's Climbing Wall with your family. Rock climbing is free for Family Weekend. All participants under 18 years of age need to have a signed waiver ready to turn in before they participate. All participants under 18 years of age must also have a legal guardian present. Sustainability Alliance Green Workshops

Politics in a Pint

The Eugene McCarthy Center for Public Policy & Civic Engagement is pleased to sponsor Politics and a Pint, a monthly series of informal discussions on issues related to public policy, politics, and current issues which may normally not enter the classroom. On Friday evening, we welcome speaker, author, Saint John's University professor and Alum, Bob Bell, for an evening discussion regarding his life and new book Un Moving Four Ward.


CSB/SJU's talented faculty ensemble, Pastiche, performs a wide range of instrumental and vocal music from the Baroque to the 21st century.

CSB Campus Ministry Family Weekend 5K Fun Run *

CSB and SJU Campus Ministries will be hosting the 13th Annual 5K Family Fun Run. This events is a great way to explore the Arboretum at Saint John's. The 5K Family Fun Run is sponsored by Alternative Break Experiences (ABE) and all money raised supports ABE programs as well as provides scholarships for students who wish to participate in these programs.

The cost is $25 for participants ages 15+ and $20 for individuals 14 and under,  as well as CSB/SJU students, faculty, and staff.

Each participant is guaranteed a 5k Family Fun Run T-shirt! Be sure to register at least a week in advance to ensure your shirt size on the day of the event. Otherwise, it will be mailed to your home address.

Cycling Ride

The CSB/SJU Cycling Club is hosting a Saturday morning bike ride for Family Weekend. There will be two distances: 10 miles (45-60 minutes) and 25 miles (75+ minutes). The 10 miles cycling ride will start at 10 AM. The 25 miles cycling ride will start at 9 AM. All participants will meet outside of Palaestra, SJU by the west doors before the start of the cycling ride. The Cycling Club REQUIRE families/ participants to bring their own bike, a water bottle, and helmets.

Saint John's Solar Tour

The solar array at Saint John's is the first highly visible step in achieving carbon neutrality and demonstrates our commitment to the American College and Universities President's Climate Commitment and to the Benedictine Value of stewardship. Saint John's hopes this large scale project will pave the way for clean energy in Minnesota.  Sarah Gainey will guide you through the solar arraywhile giving background on the Saint John's project and provide some information on the use of solar power today.

The 2500 + acres of the Abbey Arboretum have a rich history of sustainability in their 150 year past. Take a walk on the trails and explore the past and present of sustainability at Saint John's.

Saint John's Pottery Studio Tour

The Saint John's Pottery Studio will be hosting a tour of the location on Saturday Morning during Family Weekend, October 25th. The goal of the Pottery Studio is to educate students and artists in the philosophy and practices of sustainable resource development, to involve them in a totally indigenous artistic environment in an academic setting and to assist local communities with the sustainable development of indigenous resources.

There will be two tour sessions. A max of 18 participants can register for each session.  This will be a ticketed event. Please reserve your ticket by filling out the rest of this form. Participants will meet at the Sexton Fountain, SJU, and a guide will walk the group over to the studio to start the tour.

25th annual Collegiate Intra-Festival Concert #1, #2, and Final American Choral Directors Association *

On Saturday, Oct. 25th the St. John's University campus will host the 25th Annual ACDA-MN Men's/Women's Choir Festival. This all-day festival sponsored by the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota will include over a thousand singers and feature 13 gender-specific choirs from colleges across the state including the St. John's University Men's Chorus and the College of St. Benedict's Women's Choir. In addition, there will be a Finale Concert beginning at 4:30 p.m. featuring the large-scale Men's and Women's Choirs with over 400 high school students from across the state.

The #1 and#2 concerts are free. The final concert will have tickets available for purchase at the main entrance to the Abbey Church one half hour prior to each of the concerts: $10 for adults, $5 for students, faculty, or staff with an ID.

Chili Luncheon*

Join us for a delicious lunch before the football game. The traditional Chili Luncheon will take place at Guild Hall, SJU. The meal begins at 11:00 am Saturday morning. Family members may pre-purchase tickets to this online or at the door. We hope to see you and your family come to this annual Family Weekend tradition!

Carnival and BINGO*

The Family Weekend Carnival at CSB is truly an event for the entire family, no matter what age.  This year, the Carnival will have a Circus theme. Come and enjoy some friendly competition on the inflatables or try various treats options, all $2 or under. Win prizes at one of our game booths, or get a character of you and your family to take home. Speaking of winning, BINGO is back with some amazing prizes.

The Carnival is a wonderful chance to spend family time together. See you in the CSB Field House after the football game for a memorable afternoon.

Tour of Sacred Spaces: CSB Monastery

The Sacred Spaces Tour includes the Gathering Place, Sacred Heart Chapel, Blessed Sacrament Chapel and the Oratory at Saint Ben's manastery and College. All are in one building with elevator accessibility. If time permits, families can also view the first floor of the Monastery and Monastery Dining Room. This year is the 100 year anniversary of Sacred Heart Chapel.

Art and Heritage Place Tour: CSB Monastery

Visit the current exhibit at Haehn Museum entitled "Sacred Heart Chapel - God's Home Among Us".

The exhibit celebrates the 100th anniversary of building Sacred Heart Chapel.

Come to the one-story building just kitty-corner from the green dome of Sacred Heart Chapel.

Cyrille Aimee Fine Art Series Performance*

Aimee Cyrille Aimée is heralded as one of the most promising jazz singers of her generation. Raised in the French village of Samois sur Seine, she cut her teeth on the musical legacy of Django Reinhardt. Every June, gypsy caravans set up encampments in nearby meadows for the annual Django Reinhardt Festival and young Cyrille fell in love with their way of life, their language and, most of all, their music.

Cyrille mastered the art of improvisation while studying at the conservatory of jazz at SUNY Purchase and was a finalist for the prestigious Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition in 2010. She performs regularly in the historic, iconic jazz clubs of NYC and tours the world to critical acclaim.

Bring out your inner competitiveness by challenging your Bennies and Johnnies to a board game. Family game night is a great alternative for families who just want to take a break from the family weekend madness and play classic board games. 

Jared Sherlock

Jared Sherlock graduated with distinction from Saint John's University where he received a B.A. in Theater Entrepreneurship. He is also a graduate of the Dell'Arte International School of Physical Theater's summer intensive in Blue Lake, California. As an actor, The American College Theater Festival has nominated him twice for the Irene Ryan award for his performances in Our Town (2008) and Macbeth (2010). As an award-winning entrepreneur, and a classically trained illusionist, Jared performs for theaters, corporate events, and fundraisers nationwide. He has also toured internationally in Shanghai, China and Hong Kong.

Jared and his Minneapolis-based production company, Sherlock Studios LLC, is a popular consultant in Twin Cities Theater holding professional credits with Cardinal Theatricals and The Moving Company. His work has been featured by the Wall Street Journal online, MSN Money, and the internationally syndicated Bob and Tom Radio show. In 2010, Saint John's University named him the student Entrepreneur of the year. In 2008, recognized Jared as one of the United State's Top 20 Dorm-based Businesses.

Movie and Tacos

Have the family experience a movie night as a Bennie or Johnnie. The College of Saint Benedict will cater a buffet-style Taco Snack Bar following the Saturday Night magician performance of Jared Sherlock at our evening movie "Guardians of the Galaxy", the Disney blockbuster film (PG-13). Please register in advance for your free tickets, as seats are limited.

Sunday Brunch CSB/SJU*

Halloween in the Halls

Halloween in the halls is an annual fall tradition at the College of Saint Benedict. Each year we invite all of the local Saint Joseph children and their families to our campus to enjoy an afternoon of carnival games, carriage rides and trick or treating through our first year area resident halls. The event is completely free and provides a safe and fun atmosphere for children. College clubs and individual students also have the opportunity to volunteer their time for the event and look forward to this occasion each year.
