Michael Hemesath named 13th president of Saint John's University

Michael Hemesath, professor of economics at Carleton College, has been appointed the 13th president of Saint John's University by the university's Board of Regents. He will begin his official duties on July 1, 2012. A 1981 SJU graduate, Hemesath is the first lay president in the 155-year history of the institution.

60 CSB and SJU students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa

Sixty students from CSB and SJU have been accepted into the Theta of Minnesota Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at CSB/SJU. A total of 49 seniors and 11 juniors were selected by faculty members at CSB and SJU who are members of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest academic honor society, which was founded in 1776.

First-Place SAM team presented at Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day

Fresh from a first-place finish in a national competition in Las Vegas, a CSB/SJU student team presented their award-winning case study during Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day April 25.

CSB senior honored by MPA

CSB senior Alexandra Lenzen has received the Minnesota Psychological Association's Donald G. Paterson Award in Psychology, recognizing her as the outstanding senior undergraduate student.

Changes announced for debit and credit card processing

On July 1, 2012, CSB and SJU will begin working with a third-party service provider (TouchNet/Pay Path) to process credit card and debit card payments to student billing accounts.  Beginning July 1, all billing account payments using a credit card or debit card will be processed by TouchNet.  Payments can be made online through our eBilling system using MasterCard, Discover or American Express credit cards or debit cards (VISA has chosen not to participate).  TouchNet will assess a 2.75 percent fee on each transaction (with a minimum service charge of $3).  We will continue to offer other payment methods, including cash, paper checks and electronic check payments (ACH), which carry no additional charge.  We will no longer accept credit card or debit card payments over the telephone or at the cashier stations in the Student Accounts Offices.  However, we will provide a computer station in the Student Accounts Offices for use by students and parents.

Students honored at Inspiring Leaders Recognition Ceremony

The event, sponsored by the Student Activities and Leadership Development Program, was attended by more than 320 students, parents, family members, faculty, staff and monastic members to recognize the student leaders for their exemplary leadership in the Benedictine tradition.

CSB and SJU students win Student Employee/Team of the Year awards

Angela Klaverkamp, Ted Kain and the student employees of the CSB/SJU Bookstore were named Student Employees/Team of the Year for 2011-12.

Four Johnnies awarded Caritas Man of Extraordinary Service awards

Christopher Heitzig, Andrew Hovel, Carlos Dabu and William Newkirk were awarded the Caritas Man of Extraordinary Service awards to honor SJU undergraduate men who have demonstrated dedication to serving others both at CSB and SJU and/or in the local community.

CSB/SJU was listed in "The Princeton Review's Guide to 322 Green Colleges: 2012 Edition" as an institution of higher education that "demonstrates notable commitments to sustainability in their academic offerings, campus infrastructure, activities and career preparation." 

Summer camp alert

CSB offers basketball, cross country, tennis and volleyball summer camps for girls and boys ages 8-18. All camps are run by Blazer coaches, assisted by current and former Blazer athletes. A high coach-to-camper ratio gives campers individual attention to improve their athletic skills. For more information, go to the summer camp link @ www.csbblazers.com or call 320-363-5301.

Fall move-in at CSB begins Aug. 26

The CSB residence halls and campus apartments will be open for student arrival Sunday, Aug. 26. All returning students living in Lottie, Margretta, Brian, the campus apartments and the campus houses are strongly encouraged to return to campus on Monday, Aug. 27 or Tuesday, Aug. 28. Returning students may move in after 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26.  New students will move in between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. that day.

If there is an extenuating circumstance and your daughter needs to arrive prior to these dates she will need to submit an early arrival requests. Please be aware that beyond international and out-of-state students, early returns are granted for limited reasons, mainly on-campus employment or pre-season athletics. Coaches and employers will submit lists of employees/athletes to our office for approval in the early return process.  International students can request to return as early as Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012. Out-of-state students can request to return as early as Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012. All other requests will be highly scrutinized and often are not approved. The deadline for requests from your daughter to do this is Aug. 1. Late requests may not be accommodated.
