CSB leads in energy savings

At the College of Saint Benedict, energy conservation equals savings. A recent comparison of CSB and its peer group of schools during the 2011-12 fiscal year shows that the college consumes an average of just under 80,000 Btu/GSF (British thermal unit per gross square foot), while peer schools averaged 114,387 Btu/GSF. This lower energy consumption resulted in CSB spending an average of $400,000-$500,000 less than its peers.

"These results are primarily due to operating an efficient boiler plant, investing in building automation and participating in 'energy wars' with other schools," said Brad Sinn, executive director of facilities at the college.  "These efforts pay off in a big way. We can proudly claim an energy efficient status and cost savings."
