Professor of music at the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University and faculty member since 1975. Koopmann teaches piano, music literature and courses on creativity in the arts, and chaired the music department for six years. He is active as a concert pianist here and abroad, and is also organist and Director of Music for Saint John’s Abbey. A Faculty Resident in the student residence halls since 1981, Koopmann has also directed and taught many cultural tours for college students and teachers' groups to New York City and places in Europe and Africa, including the CSB/SJU Salzburg and South Africa programs. His doctorate is from the University of Iowa, with other degrees from the University of Wisconsin and SJU, and post-doctoral work at The Royal Academy in London and The Juilliard School in New York. Koopmann was a SJU Regent from 1993-2003.
