Registration Procedure

  1. Research the opportunity

    September 2007
    • Several 3-ring binders are available in the Political Science Reading Rooms (Main 410B at CSB and Simons 136-Korbel Lounge at SJU) showing materials from several previous summer study groups.
    • Email your interest in the program to Professor Matt Lindstrom, specifying the summer you wish to participate
  2. Program Application

    Due November X, 2007
    1. Complete the application form (available from Matt Lindstrom). avail online soon
    2. Prepare a one-page resume that describes your education, skills, experience and background that might be helpful in the work of a Congressional, lobbying, communications, or public policy office
    3. Attach your resume and 1-2 page writing sample to the Summer Study Application Form and turn in to Matt Lindstrom no later than the first week in December. (Students who are abroad during fall semester must begin their application process in the preceding summer
    4. Acceptance of applications may be discontinued when program is full.

      [Note that some internship sites—e.g., the State Department, F.B.I., etc., take a longer lead time to complete the application process and application materials must be prepared earlier in the fall.]
  3. Application Approval

    December, 2007

    Professor Lindstrom will notify applicants of acceptance into the summer program approximately one month following receipt of application materials (preferably before Thanksgiving break) at which time students must confirm their acceptance and make a non-refundable deposit of $200 to St. John’s University no later than January 15, 2008. This deposit will be applied to summer tuition charges and represents your commitment to program participation in 2007.  (See Housing Arrangement information, Item 3 on previous pages).
  4. Application materials to Washington sites

    December 2007, January 2008
    1. During late fall and early spring semester, Professor Wolsborn will assist students in researching internship opportunities at appropriate Washington locations, preparing application materials, and following up on contacts
    2. Living arrangements will be completed
    3. Pre-internship orientation sessions will be scheduled during spring semester and all students approved for summer study in D.C. are expected to participate.
    4. Tuition will be due and payable to Student Accounts in accordance with deadlines announced in the Notification of Acceptance letter.
  5. Summer Study

    June and July, 2008
  6. Final evaluation report and updated resume

    Due: August XX, 2008 (for summer 2008).
