Interested in bioenergy field work?
The potential for sustainably managed landscapes to produce diverse bio-products, such as synthetic plastics and fibers, transportation fuel , natural preservatives and health and beauty products, has experienced a recent surge in interest. Groups concerned about the effects of increase CO2 emissions on our climate, dependence on foreign oil and declining rural economies have all publicized the benefits of a bioeconomy. However, several
questions have to be addressed regarding the potential of natural and managed
ecosystems to produce these raw materials. How do we sustainable harvest and manage these systems? What additional benefits, such as water quality and wildlife habitat, can be produced? What is the productivity? To answer these questions, several communities, in collaboration with the University of Minnesota, have organized projects. We are currently looking for students interested in field work.
