Felicia Washington, a CSB alumna and adjunct assistant professor, values a strong commitment to diversity and women’s issues.
“Both are a natural part of social work. I am committed to these issues as a social worker and a woman of color,” Washington said.
Washington also enjoys dedicating her time to the performing arts. “All of my work as a performance artist has a social message,” Washington said. She uses theater as a tool to educate people about social issues.
Recently, Washington participated in a two-part workshop called “Seeing you, seeing me.” The focus of the workshop was directed at minority students on campus and how people can become agents of change. She has also been involved in Friday Forum workshops and is one of the team organizers for the Learning Through Differences Learning Community on campus. In the past, Washington sat on the Women’s Lives Series committee.
Washington graduated from CSB with a double major in sociology and theater. She received her Masters degree in social work from the University of Minnesota.
Washington first entered the education field when she was invited to team teach an Introduction to Social Work course at CSB in 1998. “After experiencing the teaching opportunity, my commitment to education was enhanced,” Washington said.
