General Prerequisite Coursework

There is no single set of prerequisite courses that students must take in order to apply to a graduate program in occupational therapy. Different programs can have very different prerequisites so it is important for first year students to touch base with the pre-OT advisor early in their first semester at CSB/SJU. The strategy we recommend is to select two to three schools the student is interested in attending, and work out a four year plan with specific prequisites from those schools in mind.  Later in the course of study other schools can be brought into the "plan" as student interests and goals evolve.

Most schools will require general, developmental, and abnormal psychology, human anatomy and physiology, a combination of general biology and/or genral chemistry, statistics, medical terminology and often a course in fine arts. Below we list prerequisite coursework for a group of programs our students commonly apply to. However other programs can have very different requirements, so we encourage you to study information in the OT homepage that will provide you with links to all accredited programs in the US.
