Jasna Burza

Washington D.C. Summer Internship Program Summer 2002

Jasna interned at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, located at 2030 M Street, NW, 5th Floor, Washington, DC.

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is a nonprofit organization working to strengthen and expand democracy worldwide.  NDI works with democrats in every region of the world to build political and civic organizations, safeguard elections, and promote citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.

Here is what Jasna had to say about her internship experience: "Interning at NDI made me think about my own career and the classes I need to take in the future. I realized there is so much I do not know and need to learn in the future.  Many times I would ignore domestic politics and concentrate only on international issues because that was what I was more interested in, but I have learned how everything is interconnected and I need to have knowledge of both in order to have a better picture.  I always avoided economics but after hearing this entire summer about its importance, I have decided to take a few classes to broaden my knowledge in the field of economics.

A fabulous opportunity that we were given was a chance to meet with Alumni from our schools.  They showed us it is possible to succeed and motivated us for more. I loved the conversations with them because they were able to answer our questions and guide us depending on what we want to do.  I didn't realize we have so many successful alumni in Washington DC.

This learning experience was the best experience of that kind that I have ever had. I have learned an exceptional amount, and that was all life knowledge that can never be learned through books.  The Washington DC internship was the best learning experience in all of my college years, and I plan on doing it again."
