Caroline Starr

Washington D.C. Summer Internship Program Summer 2002

Caroline interned at Women's Foreign Policy Group, located at 1875 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, DC.

The Women's Foreign Policy Group is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit, educational membership organization which promotes global engagement and the leadership, visibility, and participation of women in international affairs (WFPG Mission).  Its members range from White House advisors to the State Department, NGOs to Wall Street, and the World Bank to foreign diplomats.

Here is what Caroline had to say about her internship experience: "My experience in Washington, DC was outstanding! I enjoyed my internship with the Women's Foreign Policy Group learning a lot about non-profits and their place in the government. I had a lot of fun with the interns that I worked with.  I got to know them very well.  They are great people that I will be sure to keep in contact with.

Being involved with a non-profit organization enabled me to see that DC is not just Capital Hill and the President. There are many nonprofit organizations and each has a different goal.  The WFPG's goal showed me the importance of networking in DC.

Living in DC allowed me to see the array of cultures that encompass a small area.  Where we lived alone had its diversity.  Up the street was a black community and down the road was a Hispanic community.  Some days most of the people on the bus spoke Spanish.  I would never get that experience living here in Minnesota.

Someday I would love to go back to DC to intern or to work.  The benefits I have received from the DC internship program were undeniably educational and life-changing experiences."
