Description: POLS 223, Comparative Politics (4 credits); The main theme of this course is to learn how politics is practiced in many different ways. Through examples of countries from Europe to the developing world, this course will examine different forms of institutions, governmental decision-making and political revolutions. The course will highlight the significance of particular histories, the availability of economic resources for development, and the influence of distinct cultures and social traditions to explain why these countries reflect economic and political forms different from the United States. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. Offered every year.
Recommended For: International Relations and Comparative Politics track of studies in Political Science. For example if you plan to take 300 level courses in IR/Comparative fields such as Latin American Politics, African Politics, US Foreign Policy, International Political Economy, Global Gender Issues and Global Environmental Policy, it is necessary that you take POLS223.
