Readings will include classic works (such as Aristotle's Politics, Hobbes' Leviathan, Locke's Second Treatise on Civil Government) as well as some American and 20th-century political theory. The course stresses careful reading of texts, but also encourages students to theorize on their own about present-day political questions. Offered every semester.
Recommended For: All students. This course is required for all Political Science Majors. In addition if you plan to take 300 level courses in Classics or Political Theory, American Political Thought, Feminist Political Theory, or Theory and Public Policy then you should take POLS221 during your sophomore year.
