Checklist for Class of 2000 and beyond
These requirements apply to anyone graduating December 1999 and beyond. All political science majors must follow the existing curriculum as outlined on the requirements page and in the CSB/SJU course catalog.
Students majoring in Political Science are required to complete the following curriculum. Please confer with your advisor for further clarification.
Majors must complete each of the following four requirements:
- Intro to U.S. Politics (Pols 111)
- International Relations (Pols 121)
- Politics and Political Life (Pols 211)
- Political Theory; an Introduction (Pols 221)
Plus one of the following three courses:
- Finding and Using Evidence in Political Science (Pols 222) OR
-
Comparative Politics (Pols 223) OR
-
Courts, Policy and Law (Pols 224)
Majors must also complete four additional 300 level courses from departmental offerings.
- _____Any 300 level POLS 4-credit course
- _____Any 300 level POLS 4-credit course
- _____Any 300 level POLS 4-credit course
- _____Any 300 level POLS 4-credit course
Plus one of the following two options during the student's senior year:
_____Any one of the following Senior Research Seminars:
_____A 1-credit writing module (check with your advisor or the department chair for more details on this option); PLUS a fifth 4-credit 300-level POLS course of the student's choice.
Total = Ten 4-credit courses, plus an additional 1-credit if the writing module option in chosen.
Additional notes:
- An internship of four or more credits can substitute for one 300-level course.
- All majors may be required to take a comprehensive departmental examination in the Spring of their Senior Year. The results of which will be used for the purposes of the department's own evaluation of itself, and will not be used to prevent a student from graduating.
