The first Global Awareness program for spring semester takes place on January 20-21. Monde Wani is an actor of national prominence in South Africa. Trained in the New Africa Theater Project at the University of Capetown he will be performing his one person play, Trial at Rivonia. This play is based on the actual court transcripts of the historic 1964 trial in South Africa where Nelson Mandela and the other leaders of the African National Congress were convicted and sentenced to life in prison for their activities in opposition to the country’s system of apartheid. The play, in which Monde assumes several characters, was first performed in Port Elizabeth in March 2002 and was subsequently chosen for the Grahamstown Festival, the country’s leading arts festival.
The performances at CSB/SJU will be Tuesday and Wednesday evening January 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the BAC Forum at CSB. Sponsorship is provided by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Multicultural Programs, the International Student Program Office, and the CSB/SJU Theater Department. There is a $3 admission. Please encourage your students to attend. The event is part of the Martin Luther King Week activities.
