Global Solidarity Project

The world is becoming smaller and smaller as each day passes, and it is growing increasingly important to foster healthy relationships with one another.  There are many different types of relationships for which a person, group, or state can pursue.  Within the Peace Studies Department here at CSB and SJU professors are exploring not only the theoretical aspects of Global Solidarity, but putting theory to practice.

One program here on campus highlights the efforts to not only build a partnership with a community half a world away, but also for the students and faculty alike to grow in the mutually enriching process of sharing ones life and culture with another.  The Diocese of Homa Bay, Kenya and the Diocese of St. Cloud, Minnesota have been working together in cooperation with Catholic Relief Services and the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University to build on what Solidarity actually means in the world today.

Fr. William Vos, Dr. Ron Pagnucco and Agnes Kithikii of CRS, Kenya wrote an essay examining the solidarity program they have actively been working on since 1999.  This program is regarded as one of the first of its kind in the United States today.
