14. Floating Boardwalk
Two boardwalks were installed the winter of 2000 thanks to several hundred volunteers. The sections were dragged across the ice and positioned. The boardwalk shown at left is over 900 feet long and floats.
During the summer, hundreds of leopard and mink frogs are found leaping away from the boardwalk.
If you look closer at the water you will find thousands of small organisms including dragonfly nymphs, backswimmers, snails, and predacious diving beetles among others.
Take a scoop of the green vegetation on top of the wetland and you will see that it is actually individual plants known as duckweed.
