Job Title: Orientation Leader—Fall 2010
Department: CSB/SJU Student Activities and Leadership Development
Length of Position:   
  • Orientation Leader—Dates: August 22 – 26, 2010
  • Training for Orientation Leaders—Date:  Spring 2010 -- (TBD)

Applications will be due Monday, November 16th at 4:30 p.m.

Function/Description of the Position: To assist the Orientation Coordinators with the duties and responsibilities of providing leadership facilitation of the orientation program for new students at CSB/SJU. Orientation Leaders will gain professional skills and leadership experience assisting incoming first-year students and their parents.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the implementation of orientation programs for new students and their parents
  • Attend training for student orientation leaders
  • Serve as a role model for incoming students and peers
  • Provide leadership and facilitation for small orientation groups
  • Support and participate in small faculty group meetings at both SJU and CSB
  • Follow the established contract in regard to rules, behavior and attitude as determined by the orientation staff
  • Lead small group discussions with first year students
  • Guide tours of first year students and parents
  • Assist in the set-up and take-down for orientation events
  • Contact your orientation group members during the summer
  • Carry out other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate the mission of CSB/SJU experience
  • Familiarity with CSB/SJU programs, resources, and organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and information in a high-paced environment
  • Effective interpersonal skills: assertive, helpful, sensitive and tactful in working with others
  • Ability to accept and respond to critical feedback
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to maintain positive, flexible and adaptable working style
  • Availability to attend mandatory training sessions
  • Availability to participate fully in all orientation programs
  • Ability to lead and facilitate small group discussion
 
Pay:   Stipend available— specific amount to be determined
