The Fall 2011 Winners:

People's Choice: Danny Elenz, India, Spring 2011
Photo Name: "Desert Sun"

Description:   As we were camping in the desert, riding camels, we had to take a second and appreciate the setting sun.  What a sight!

Second Place: Heather Beshears, Australia, Spring 2011
Photo Name: "A Shared Culture"
Description:
This picture represents a lot of different things.  First, it shows the crossing of two cultures, however the learning is taking place from both angles.  The little boy represents almost a similar stance on the culture as the student.  The boy is still young and may not fully grasp all concepts of the culture or traditions which is exactly where the student stands.  They are both from completely different worlds but are both eager to learn.  It also represents the tolerance and openness that a child sees in the world.  Children do not see color or differences at this young age, and we should all see the world that way, accepting of all.

Third Place: Katie Cossette, Tanzania,  Short-term Summer 2011
Photo Name: "The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music"
Description: This photo is from the top of a hill in Imiliwaha, Tanzania where we visited the Benedictine sisters at their convent.  Kayla and I felt like we were in the middle of the movie "Soundof Music", so we were dancing around and singing songs from that musical and Sister Anita joined right in!  She was just one of many incredible people we met on this adventure.

Fourth Place: Eric Uzelac, Cork Ireland, Spring 2011
Photo Name: "Leeside Sunset"
Description:
This is the view from the fourth floor of the Leeside Apartments, our residence in Cork.  Our group, andmany groups before us, spent dozens of fun evenings across the street at the Franciscan Well.  The neighborhood pictured, while typical for cities in Ireland, is packed with history.  The buildings are 18th century terraced houses that impoverished Irish occupied during the British reign.  Understanding the history and oppression of the Irish was an important part of the Cork experience, and you had only to look ou the window to begin.
