Nikki Orth

Nikki Orth is an Ambassador used studied abroad in Greece and Italy

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
Traveling and experiencing new things has always been an interest to me, and I've wanted to go to Greece and Italy for as long as I can remember. I did try and keep my options open by looking at other programs, but the courses, opportunities, and locations made it an easy choice for me.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
The weekly farmer's market in Athens was the perfect place for observing and interacting with locals. Not only was it the best produce I have ever had, but I also got the most raw and truthful taste of the Athenian lifestyle and dynamics.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
Going abroad far surpassed any expectation I had. It allowed me to go beyond the walls of everyday life, to step outside of what I thought was normalcy, and to think about things from new perspectives.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
I benefited from my abroad experience in so many different ways. It was the perfect vehicle for self-exploration and discovery that profoundly produced a new sense of confidence in me. The new skills I gained will follow me throughout life, and I learned how to be an active seeker of knowledge outside of the classroom that will lead to being a life-long learner.
What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
If it is a dream of yours to go abroad, make it a reality. It is seriously one of the best things you can do for yourself academically, professionally, and socially.
