Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I wanted to learn to be more independent as well as get out of my comfort zone. I chose London because of the language, but more importantly because they offered an internship opportunity and I figured that would be the best step for me to help me make the right steps for a better career and future.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

I think just being placed in such a centralized area in the city. It made the experience so much more incredible. The fact that the Parliament and Big Ben were right out our door, was amazing!

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

Honestly, it is so hard to even put this experience into words, but it was the best experience of my life! It fulfilled all expectations and then some. I was able to learn about another culture through study, I was able to learn about the workplace of another culture, and I was able to travel the world! I made great friends with people I might never have on my own.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

Basically everything I said above also plays into this question. On more of a personal level though, I would say this particular experience helped me academically because like I said I am an art major and art is huge in London. I was able to not only learn more about the art world but I was able to actually see major pieces from the real artists of all times! Also, because I had time to travel on my own I was able to go to other big art inspired countries like France and Italy. Lastly, having an internship in the art field helped me to see how I could potentially use art in a career.

What advice can you offer for CSB|SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

I would say to other students looking to not only study but get a hands-on experience in a business orientated field to study in London, only because of the internship opportunity. However, no matter which study abroad program you choose, one will be fitting for your current needs as well as your needs of the future. It is a true learning experience, and it will help you to gain an independence you may never thought was possible.
