This course will focus on the specific energy and nutritional needs for exercise and the biochemical roles of ergogenic aids, vitamins, minerals and herbal products. The physiological consequences of micronutrient deficiencies as well as the benefits and risks of supplements will be included.
Laboratory experiments provide students with the opportunity to be both subject and researcher as they design experiments, collect data and interpret results.
Prerequisite:
NUTR 125, statistics and biochemistry background or permission of instructor
A laboratory is required in conjunction with lecture for all students enrolled. Laboratory facilities are housed in Ardolf Science Center.
