Why study nursing at a liberal arts college?

Liberal arts encourage a complete experience

“A liberal arts college is so beneficial for nursing. When caring for patients, it is essential to provide a holistic approach, and this is the advantage you receive graduating with a liberal arts degree. With the background classes of natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, I feel that I am competent and have established a firm base knowledge to continue to build on.”

What makes the nursing program at CSB/SJU unique?

Benedictine values push students to become better nurses

“The focus on Benedictine Traditions and Values helps to develop a unique perspective in caring for patients. The values instilled in us, combined with our strong desire and passion to care for patients, promotes the development of a compassionate nurse.”

What has your experience with the CSB/SJU nursing faculty been like?

Helpful and encouraging faculty

“The nursing faculty here is amazing! Every one of them is more than happy to help, and they all are so knowledgeable. The faculty provides the educational environments conducive to learning, while also making learning enjoyable.  Each professor pushes students to think critically in order to instill those necessary skills into our practice. They promote the learning of students by challenging us to succeed with each experience that we have, both in the classroom and in the clinical setting.”

What has been one of the greatest challenges you’ve faced?

Hard work, but worth it

“The nursing degree is tough. It requires a lot of time and commitment, but the knowledge and experience gained are priceless. The education here provides the solid foundation for a successful and lifelong career in nursing.”

What advice do you have for students considering a major in nursing?

Experiences above and beyond nursing

“As a pre-nursing student, work hard. Take advantage of every learning opportunity that presents. Get involved on campus in numerous activities that you enjoy. Take the time to get to know your professors and other pre-nursing students. Find techniques that enhance your learning, and utilize them.”
