The Magic of Jared Sherlock presents Night Games

Illusionist Jared Sherlock, a junior at Saint John's University, will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, and Saturday, Jan. 23, in Escher Auditorium, Benedicta Arts Center of the College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph, Minn.

Sherlock’s show, Night Games, fuses modern magic and illusions with comedy, dancing, storytelling and rock concert lighting to create a modern day variety show. Critically acclaimed for its collaborative and affecting performances, the company features a high energy and eclectic show for the young and young at heart. Sherlock is known nationally as a new and exciting young Illusionist and entertainer.

An Indianapolis native, Sherlock started performing magic at the age of 8. He trained with the Society of Young Magicians and very quickly started booking shows in a variety of local Indiana venues. He is the owner of the Indiana-based production company The Magic of Jared Sherlock, established in 2000.

Sherlock was selected as one of the winners in the 2008 StartUpNation.com Dorm Based 20 Competition, which named America’s top 20 college-based businesses and the young entrepreneurs behind them. He was also featured in The Wall Street Journal in October 2008.

Sherlock is pursuing an Individualized major in entrepreneurship and theater at SJU to help him prepare for the business side of his productions. Sherlock's goal is to create one of Central Minnesota’s more sought after touring productions through a new faculty/student cooperative project. Sherlock has nearly 40 CSB and SJU students, faculty and staff helping him with the production. He aspires to become a full-time magician and have his name on a billboard of a major Las Vegas hotel.

Sherlock recently performed at the Inauguration concert for the Rev. Robert Koopmann, OSB, SJU president, and at halftime of a SJU basketball game.

A magician at heart and humanitarian in training, parts of the proceeds from all of his performances have directly benefited specific charities in Indianapolis. All ticket sales from January’s performances will benefit the Saint Benedict's Monastery retirement fund and Saint John's Abbey retirement fund.

Sherlock has also established his own charitable foundation called “Arts Now,” which is dedicated to the mission of helping people in need overcome their obstacles and achieve their magical dreams.

The performances are sponsored in part by the Donald McNeely Center for Entrepreneurship at CSB and SJU and the McKelvey Foundation. The production is supported by Fine Arts Programming, and is in collaboration with the CSB/SJU Theater Department.
