Cal Ryan-MosleyDr. Calvin Ryan-Mosley, vice president for admission and financial aid at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University, will retire in summer 2018.

Ryan-Mosley, who has served at CSB and SJU for a decade, announced his retirement through a campus-wide email Wednesday, Jan. 24. A national search for a vice president of admission and financial aid will begin shortly.

“It has been a wonderful experience to serve a community I love,” Ryan-Mosley said of CSB and SJU. “I will miss the people, our purpose and all of our combined contributions to our incredible students. My health is good, and there are many fish yet to be caught and a lengthy honey-do list to complete. Both my family and I will miss this extraordinary community and its people.”

How much does he love the community?

His wife, Claudia, graduated from CSB in 1976 and was a trustee at the school. His daughter, Erin Ryan-Mosley, graduated in 2016 with a degree in sociology and served as president of the CSB Student Senate. His younger daughter, Allison Ryan-Mosley, is set to graduate this spring and is president of Square One, a service club on campus who was also a two-time member of the MIAC All-Academic soccer team. He has also had six nieces or nephews graduate from CSB or Saint John’s University.

Cal Ryan-Mosley earned a doctorate in administration, planning and social policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and began his career in higher education at Pacific University (Oregon) in 1967.

Over the past 51 years, Ryan-Mosley has worked at seven institutions, including 20 years at Harvard University as associate director of admissions, and nine years as executive director of degree programs at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Within Minnesota, he worked at Saint Catherine University and Hamline University before coming to CSB and SJU. His experience and expertise as a university administrator has contributed to enrollment stability at CSB and SJU throughout his tenure.

"Cal has forgotten more about college admissions than most people will ever know," said Jon McGee, vice president for planning and strategy at CSB and SJU. "He has throughout his long professional life remained a keen student of higher education, bringing an infectious enthusiasm to his work here at CSB/SJU and nationally.

"He's been a gifted national leader in college admission who will leave an enduring footprint," McGee added.

Ryan-Mosley has also been a higher education consultant for over 20 years. Additionally, he is a resident faculty member at the Harvard and College Board Summer Institute on College Admissions.
