The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University present "Liberal Arts Illuminated: Pathways, Possibilities, Partnerships" July 11-13, 2016

This summer, an anticipated 150 college and university  administrators, faculty members and trustees, as well as key public policymakers, will gather on the campuses of CSB and SJU for a substantive, generative conversation about the future of liberal arts institutions.

The various sessions, featuring liberal arts thought leaders, will engage a variety of voices and perspectives to answer four major questions:

  • Where is our sector going and how is it transformative?
  • Why should people invest in liberal arts education?
  • How do we ensure financial, social and cultural access for all?
  • What should we do to make sure the liberal arts thrive over the next 50 years?

Liberal arts colleges are more important, and even more practical, than ever. But they face enormous and unprecedented challenges — challenges related to their purpose, their role, their value and, ultimately, to their sustainability and viability as institutions.

There is tremendous opportunity in those challenges. As liberal arts colleges, we are called to innovate, to embrace risk in new ways and to define a future for our students and our institutions that positions the liberal arts as a critical part of our social, political and economic future.
