Gender Summit to feature research from students, faculty

The inaugural Gender Summit will be held from 6-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Gorecki Center, College of Saint Benedict.

Research from College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University students, faculty and staff on gender issues and other related fields will be presented at room 204B&C, Gorecki Center. The summit is free and open to the public.

A keynote speech scheduled to be delivered by Sumaya Farooq Samie was canceled due to an emergency in the Samie family.

Among the presentations at 6 p.m. are:

  • "Portrayal of Housewives in 1960s Films," by CSB sophomore Anna Hueg;
  • "Gender Ratios in Play for Young Audiences," by Kaarin Johnston, professor of theater at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University.

Among the presentations at 6:30 p.m. are:

  • "Gender Portrayals in Disney Films," by CSB senior Laura Ricci;
  • "Global to Local Sex Trafficking," by CSB junior Diana Elhard.

The summit is co-sponsored by the Institute for Women's Leadership at CSB; the Men's Development Center at SJU; Career Services at CSB and SJU; the gender studies and communication departments at CSB and SJU; and Intercultural and International Student Services at CSB and SJU.
