19 CSB students to be inducted into DES society April 13

Nineteen students from the College of Saint Benedict will be inducted into the Omega Chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma (DES) on Friday, April 13.

A celebration of the Eucharist is at 5 p.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict’s Monastery, followed by dinner and induction ceremony in room 204, Gorecki Center, CSB.

Select CSB juniors and seniors are inducted into DES each year based on a series of criteria. Students must maintain a 3.9 grade-point average or higher on a 4.0 scale, while also being involved in the community through volunteer and extracurricular activities.

DES is a national Catholic Honor Society with the purpose of recognizing academic accomplishments, dedication to intellectual activity and service to others. CSB has been a member of DES since its beginning in 1940.

Seven seniors and 12 juniors will be inducted into DES. Here are the inductees, listed by class and alphabetically:

Seniors

Allison Cwikla, daughter of Duane Cwikla of Fargo, North Dakota, and Carrie Cwikla of Fargo. Cwikla is a psychology major.

Toni Gohman, daughter of David and Kari Gohman of Brainerd, Minnesota. Gohman is a biology major.

Hannah Holst, daughter of Leon and Shirley Holst of Dexter, Minnesota. Holst is a chemistry major.

Kendall Johnson, daughter of Kent Johnson and Amy Vansloun of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Johnson is a integrative health science major.

Natalie Rataczak, daughter of Jim and Joan Rataczak of Circle Pines, Minnesota. Rataczak is a natural science major.

Chelsea Schwarzkopf, daughter of Chris and Kimberly Schwarzkopf of Genesco, Illinois. Schwarzkopf is an oboe performance and communication double-major.

Kelsey Tatarek, daughter of Dale and Jeanne Roche Tatarek of St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Tatarek is an exercise science and Hispanic studies double-major.

Juniors

Grace Bandel, daughter of Scott Bandel of Chatfield, Minnesota, and Marie Goihl of Rochester, Minnesota. Bandel is an English major.

Mikayla Karels, daughter of John and Kim Karels of Winsted, Minnesota. Karels is a psychology major.

Rediet Negede Lewi, daughter of Negede Lewi Teklemariam and Endanchyelem Mekonnen Beshir of Nairobi, Kenya. Lewi is a psychology major.

Olivia Newgaard, daughter of Scott and Stacy Newgaard of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Newgaard is a biology major.

Megan Noetzel, daughter of Thomas Noetzel and Karen Brown of St. Michael, Minnesota. Noetzel is an English and psychology double-major.

Haley Olson, daughter of Troy and Gail Olson of Royalton, Minnesota. Olson is an accounting major.

Rachel Perri, daughter of Gregg and Lisa Perri of Plymouth, Minnesota. Perri is a psychology and gender studies double-major.

Magen Puerzer, daughter of Paul and Sue Puerzer of Edina, Minnesota. Puerzer is a psychology and global business leadership double-major.
