Politicians aren't the only people engaged these days at the Minnesota State Capitol. On March 24, 35 College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University students participated in the "Day at the Capitol" event.
The students received a public policy briefing and a "how to" lobbying training session. Following the briefing, students expressed their concerns to legislators about the $42 million budget shortfall projected for the Minnesota State Grant program next year. Over 9,000 Minnesota college students could lose their state grants for the 2010-11 academic year if cuts go through, and others could see their State Grant value drop significantly. Over 1,000 CSB and SJU students received a Minnesota State Grant this year.
Students also took part in an alumnae/i social networking reception with lawmakers, staff members and lobbyists from the schools.
