College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University education professor Terri Rodriguez has been chosen as one of four recipients of the 2014-15 Conference on English Education (CEE) Research Initiative Grant for $2,500.

Rodriguez was chosen based off of her research project, "Conceptions, Goals, and Practice of Socially Just English Education: Who Are We As Activist Allies?"

"I was absolutely thrilled to receive this news," Rodriquez said. "CEE is the most respected professional organization in my field. I feel honored to know that my colleagues believe in the value of this work."

With this grant, Rodriguez plans to explore how English education curriculum inspires, nurtures and challenges social justice ideals and practices in English language arts classrooms. She and her colleagues are in the first stages of data generation and hope to present preliminary findings at the CEE conference in New York in July 2015.

CEE is an organization within the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and grant recipients are chosen based on research projects that will advance the mission of the organization. They are also chosen based on their potential to assist CEE's efforts to communicate more effectively with groups such as state and federal policy makers, accreditation agencies, school/department administrators, researchers, teacher educators, practicing teachers and other education leaders.

Rodriguez will be announced as one of four recipients at the 2014 NCTE Annual Convention in National Harbor, Maryland. Recognition will take place during the CEE Membership Meeting on Friday, Nov. 21.
