Bennie Day of Service will be Saturday, March 22 on the College of Saint Benedict campus.

The celebration will honor the Benedictine values that have been inspiring CSB students for more than 100 years. Bennie Day of Service is a day-long event that brings together members of CSB's community as they learn about and participate in volunteering in their local communities in honor of the college's centennial, "A Century of Connection." It will be the first time a single day of service event has been celebrated and recognized by the community.

This event will begin with a continental breakfast from 9:30-10 a.m. in Claire Lynch Hall. Valerie Jones '94, executive director of CSB Alumnae Relations, will be the speaker for the event, followed by the presentation of the Centennial Service Award.

The Centennial Service Award will be awarded to a current CSB student in recognition of her service in the local community. The award highlights a woman who is involved in student organizations or activities and shows commitment to the local community by leadership, civic engagement and serving for the common good.

There will also be educational breakout sessions from 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in areas throughout campus. These sessions will help students learn more about the community while focusing on children, elderly and refugee populations.

An open house with the local community will be from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at various locations across the campus. Reflection will be from 4:30-5 p.m. in Gorecki 204.

Churches and non-profit organizations within a 40-minute radius from the CSB campus are invited to attend.

"I am really looking forward for this day to bring together the different communities and have students learn more about service," said Christa Troup, a CSB senior and one of the coordinators for the day.

In conjunction with the on-campus activities, the CSB Alumnae Office is coordinating volunteer opportunities for alumnae in the Twin Cities area as well as St. Cloud. Additionally, alumnae in other parts of the United States or abroad are encouraged to find a service project to participate in that day as well.
