SJU graduate to speak on filmmaking

Alex Fischer, a 1999 graduate of Saint John's University and an experimental filmmaker and film festival organizer, will speak at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at the SJU Art Center Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Fischer will be screening excerpts from his soon to be released feature film, "Tatiana Yablikova: Confessions of a Russian Blowup Doll," and sharing stories of his journey as a filmmaker and author from SJU to the corners of the world.

He is the director, writer and producer of over 60 short films and documentaries produced in 16 countries including the U.S., South Africa, Madagascar, Australia, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Scotland. His films have been shown at eight film festivals in four countries, winning four awards.

Fischer has also authored several publications about the film festival experience that range from interviews with prominent film festival directors to case studies about the film submission process.

Fischer, a native of Parker, Colo., was a communication major at SJU.
