Twelve students from the College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph, and Saint John’s University, Collegeville, were honored at the Inspiring Leadership 2008 recognition banquet April 20 at the Gorecki Dining and Conference Center, CSB.
The event, sponsored by Student Activities and Leadership Development at CSB and SJU and attended by over 220 people, featured a keynote message from Carliene Quist, a 2007 CSB alumna who received the 2007 “Excellence in Leadership Award” from the organization. Quist is currently conducting research through a Fulbright U.S. Student scholarship in Juarez, Mexico.
The 2008 “Excellence in Leadership Award” was presented to CSB graduate Alexa Gallet. Gallet, from Duluth, Minn., graduated from CSB in December 2007 with a degree in political science.
Gallet also shared the “Model the Way” award with SJU student Brett Saladin (senior, psychology, Woodstock, Ill.).
The “Emerging Leader” awards were presented to SJU student Joe Daly (junior, accounting and economics major, Owatonna, Minn.), and CSB student Kristina Seslija (sophomore, political science and peace studies, Sarajevo).
The “Challenge the Process” award was presented to SJU student Luke Fisher (senior, political science, Delano, Minn.), and CSB student Ashley Davenport (senior, biology and nutrition, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).
The “Inspire a Shared Vision” award was presented to CSB student Gretchen Enninga (senior, psychology, Fulda, Minn.), and SJU student Jonathan Keillor (senior, individualized major, Mendota Heights, Minn.).
The “Enable Others to Act” award was presented to SJU student Benjamin Nelson (senior, history, Marshall, Minn.), and CSB student Kelly Smith (senior, communication and English, Lakeville, Minn.).
The “Encourage the Heart” award was presented to CSB student Elizabeth Sturlaugson (senior, communication and management, Robbinsdale, Minn.), and SJU student Thomas Connelly (senior, environmental studies and Spanish, Omaha, Neb.).
Gar Kellom, vice president of student development at SJU, was presented with an honorary “Excellence in Leadership” award.
In addition to the awards, 82 students were presented “Certificates of Leadership” from the Inspiring Leaders Certificate Program (ILCP) in five levels, including 35 members of the CSB Residential Life staff.
