CSB inducts 12 new members into Omega Chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma

The College of Saint Benedict will induct 12 new members into the Omega Chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma (DES) during a ceremony Sunday, Feb. 18, at the Haehn Campus Center (HCC) on the CSB campus.

The program begins at 11:45 a.m. with a brunch at Alumnae Hall in the HCC, followed by the induction ceremony. The inductees will receive a DES pin and a certificate of membership.

DES, a national Catholic honor society for women, is considered CSB’s highest honor for a student. The Omega Chapter of DES was chartered March 29, 1940, at CSB. The applicants must maintain a 3.9 grade-point average or higher on a 4.0 scale, and must be very involved in the community through volunteer and extra curricular activities.

The purpose of DES is to recognize academic accomplishments, dedication to intellectual activity and service to others.

The following are inductees for 2007 (listed alphabetically):

• Carly Andresen, daughter of David and Leslie Andresen of Brooklyn Park, Minn., junior chemistry major;
• Brittni Colebank, daughter of Robert and Kimberly Colebank of Rogers, Minn., junior management major;
• Lindsey Hoehn, daughter of Russell and Marlene Hoehn of St. Peter, Minn., junior history major;
• Catherine London, daughter of Stephen and Barbara London of Arden Hills, Minn., junior psychology and English major;
• Clarey McKeown, daughter of Richard McKeown of Milan, Minn., and Tracy Reynolds of Montevideo, Minn., senior English major;
• Alyssa Merten, daughter of Thomas and Debra Merten of Spicer, Minn., senior accounting major (with a concentration in certified public accounting);
• Molly Roske, daughter of Michael and Peggy Roske of St. Joseph, Minn., junior environmental studies major;
• Jennifer Saffert, daughter of James Saffert of Springfield, Minn., and Sylvia Saffert of Springfield, Minn., senior elementary education and Spanish major;
• Lisa Schleper, daughter of Jim and Ann Schleper of St. Cloud, Minn., senior biology and Spanish major;
• Abby Schwalbach, daughter of Stephen and Ann Schwalbach of River Falls, Wis., senior dietetics major;
• Kaelly Simpson, daughter of Ray and Heidi Simpson of Plano, Texas, junior mathematics major;
• Alison Thorsness, daughter of David and Beverly Thorsness of Foley, Minn., junior chemistry major.

The 12 inductees are eligible for national DES scholarships. Seniors can apply for a $1,000 post-graduate scholarship, while juniors can apply for a $1,000 undergraduate scholarship.
