CSB/SJU encourage students to celebrate their 21st birthday responsibly.

03/13/2006

The CSB/SJU Counseling and Health Promotion Department sends every student a birthday card on their 21st birthday that encourages students to celebrate responsibly.  The card includes information on low-risk drinking tips, alternatives to drinking, and how alcohol affects women differently than men (on the CSB card only).  We hope that this information reminds students that we care about their health and well-being, particularly around this potentially high-risk drinking occasion.

Both locally and nationally, a scary phenomenon called “power hour” has some students trying to drink 21 shots of alcohol between midnight and bar closing on their 21st birthday.

We encourage you to talk to your son/daughter about this event so he/she is empowered to make good decisions.  Their friends play a large role in this celebratory event, so you can encourage them to help your son/daughter on their 21st birthday also.
