All liturgical music majors are required to pass proficiency in organ and voice and recommended to pass proficiency in guitar, regardless of their primary instrument. Proficiency for voice is achieved at the discretion of the instructor. The guitar exam consists of the following: psalm accompaniment, classical repertoire, and a personal arrangement of a hymn. This proficiency can only be taken during juries at the end of the semester. Organ proficiency varies upon each students' primary instrument and is provided by the instructor through consultation with the keyboard faculty (for example; as an organ major, one must also complete a service playing proficiency).
