About Christmas at Saint John's

It is time to get into the Christmas Spirit and, according to many, there is no better way than to attend one of our annual Christmas Concerts - either in the Great Hall at Saint John's or at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis!

  Friday, December 2, 8:00 p.m. - Great Hall

Saturday, December 3, 2:00 p.m. - Great Hall

Saturday, December 3, 8:00 p.m. -  Basilica of Saint Mary

The Amadeus Chamber Symphony, CSB/SJU Brass Choir, CSB Women's Choir, CSB/SJU Chamber Choir, SJU Boy's Choir, and SJU Men's Chorus will be under the direction of conductors Justin Zanchuk, Susan Cogdill, Axel Theimer, and André Heywood. The ensembles, individually and in various combinations, will present compositions written in celebration of the Seasons of Advent and Christmas.

This year's program features music by Felix Mendelssohn, Leonard Bernstein, Anton Bruckner, Ivan Hrusovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and others.

Throughout the concert, in good old fashioned tradition, the audience will be invited to join all the choirs and orchestra in singing a number of favorite Christmas carols such as "O Come All Ye Faithful", "Stille Nacht", "Lo, How A Rose", and others.  Other treasured favorites will include "Personent Hodie", "Glory of the Father" and Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus".
