CSB | SJU - Men's Center for Leadership and Service

A strong relationship has developed between Saint John's University and Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. The relationship began with an exchange of visits between student leaders and administrative officials from each institution. The relationship has led to the Morehouse College - Saint John's University Exchange Program.

Goals of the relationship are:

• To develop a long term relationship with Morehouse College
• Exchange ideas and programs for the further development of male college students
• Establish an annual student exchange
• Enhance diversity awareness at both Saint John's and Morehouse. 

Gar Kellom, SJU Vice President for Student Development and the Director for the Center for Men's Leadership and Service, has been the leading administrator in the relationship.

A Morehouse College campus visit was arranged in the Spring of 2004 and the SJU delegation was treated to a little southern hospitality in the great state of Georgia.  Accompanying Gar Kellom on the trip to Morehouse were Zachary Bauman (SJU First Year), Carl Johnson (SJU Sophomore), Cheval Morrison (SJU Junior), Richard Carlbom (SJU Senior) and Fr. Bob Pierson (Director of SJU Campus Ministry).

One of the highlights of the trip for the SJU delegation was visiting the "Peace Room" at Morehouse College.  There they met and spoke with a nephew of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, a 1948 Graduate of Morehouse College.  It was an inspirational trip for those who visited.
