Checkout Policy

As part of the Library, Media Services works closely with library circulation to offer media materials and equipment available for loan to CSB and SJU students, staff and faculty. Our checkout policies align with those of CSB/SJU Libraries' circulation, yet focus specifically on the media aspect of the CSB/SJU Libraries' circulation and loans.

EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT POLICIES

Media Services provides equipment that is available for checkout through the library. A complete list of equipment available for loan is available on the Media Services Equipment Checkout web page. The patron is responsible for the equipment once it has been checked out, until returned. The standard loan time for most Media Services equipment is 1 day, however some equipment have a longer loan period. If you need a piece of equipment longer than the designated loan time, then you can either renew the item on a daily basis until finished or contact Media Services directly to see about a loan extension.

While initial loans are free of charge, all Media Services equipment are subject to overdue fees if not returned by the designated due date.

DVD, VHS & CD CHECKOUT POLICIES

CSB/SJU Libraries has standardized guidelines for physical media checkout. The length of a loan period varies depending on if the patron is a faculty member, staff or a student.

FACULTY & STAFF

DVDs, VHS tapes, CDs and sound recordings checked out by either faculty or staff have a 5 day loan period. When items are being used in class, arrangements may be made to keep items longer than the 5 day loan period.

STUDENTS

DVDs and VHS tapes checked out by students have a 1 day loan period. CDs and sound recordings have a 3 day loan. They may be taken out of the library if they are not on reserve. If the item is on reserve, then the student can still use the media within the limits of library when available.

SAINT JOHN'S PREP STUDENTS, LOCAL BORROWERS & MTLA MEMBERS

Media materials cannot be checked out to these individuals.

LOAN RENEWALS

Media items can be renewed by returning the physical media or equipment to either the Clemens Circulation Desk, Sexton 200, or online through the Library's Borrowing Record. Media equipment can also be renewed from Media Services directly. For more information on how to renew an item online, see the "Renewals" section of Circulation Services

OVERDUE & REPLACEMENT FEES

Both physical media and equipment are subject to an overdue fees if not returned by the designated loan due date. Overdue items that are on reserve have a higher fee rate. If Media Services equipment is not returned at all, returned damaged or returned with missing parts, then the patron may be charged replacement fees.
